Since then, the company's rise in becoming one of the country's telecom giants has been nothing short of meteoric, with MTN SA recently announcing an increased market share of 36 percent in the Rainbow Nation.

MTN South Africa is part of the MTN Group, a multinational telecommunications group offering cellular network access and business solutions, with mobile licenses in 21 nations capturing 147.3 million subscribers.

The most recent subscriber figures, released on March 31, show a 1.9 percent increase since the end of December 2010, increasing the company's reach in South Africa to incorporate 19.2 million subscribers.

This constant drive for improvement and growth, says Serame Taukobong, MTN SA's Chief Marketing Officer, is why the company continues to be successful.

"In any country that we start operating in, it is critical that we firstly ensure we invest in a very robust network because the quality of calls is very important to us.
